biography
Edward van de Vendel mostly writes books for children and young adults. His work includes poetry, song lyrics, fiction, picture books and non-fiction.
He was born in Leerdam, The Netherlands (1964). He was a teacher in elementary schools before he became a fulltime writer in 2001. He writes novels for children and young adults, poetry, and picturebooks, which are mostly published at Querido’s publishing house (Amsterdam). He is also the publisher of his own imprint Blauw Gras.
His books were awarded with the Theo Thijssen Award (state prize for his complete works), the Golden Slate (best book for children), the Silver Slate (16 x), the Golden Kiss (best book for teenagers, 4x), Woutertje Pieterse Prijs (critic’s choice, 2x), and he was on the shortlist of the Hans Christian Andersen Award (2024) and got a nomination for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (5x). His books are sold to more than twenty five countries.
